What is your vision for Minnesota's transportation system and how will we pay for it?
Lisa A. Fobbe - The transportation package that was enacted by the Legislature this year should provide the funding and along with the Department of Transportation prioritizes projects to adequately manage the state transportation system for the next ten years.
Alison Krueger - Due to the fact that funding is limited and does not fit our needs, we have two options: private sector tollways, or contacting Congress for money. I will not support the continuation of a failing alternative transportation method.
What should the Legislature do to eliminate the next state budget's projected $1 billion - $2 billion deficit?
Lisa A. Fobbe - To deal with the large budget deficit we will have to raise revenue and cut spending. It would be important for me to protect property tax payers and middle class income tax payers in our solution to the deficit.
Alison Krueger - We should limit programs that do not address the needs of the state or its citizens. Wants are not necessary. Goverment and its people need to set priorities for money that is in hand before society becomes overburdened.
Is quality healthcare a universal right, and if so, what should the state do to ensure it?
Lisa A. Fobbe - I do believe that quality, affordable health care is a right and this, along with education, is another of the dominate issues for our state today, that needs attention. We can't afford to do nothing with regard to this issue.
Alison Krueger - Minnesota leads the nation in caring for its citizens. However, to maintian this government subsidy, free market needs to remain involved in order to maintain and increase accessiblitiy, accountability and flexibility in patient care.
Does the state education system need tweaking or an overhaul and what would that entail?
Lisa A. Fobbe - I believe that the way we fund education needs an overhaul and the way we educate our students needs tweaking. We need to renew our commitment to public schools with attention to accountability for success and adequate funding.
Alison Krueger - As a senator I will attempt to work on the disparity of rural students receiving half of what metro students receive per pupil, strip unfunded mandates, and find positive ways to hold schools and school boards accountable for below-average performance.
