What do you see as your city's biggest issue?
Doug Schmitz - The redevelopment of the downtown property.
Eric Vogt - The biggest issues in the City of Cold Spring are being proactive in the areas of business and residential growth, while continually planning for the future.
What's your solution for that situation?
Doug Schmitz - Work closely with property owners to make sure the re-development is what is best for the city of Cold Spring.
Eric Vogt - We need to plan for growth in both our business and residential sectors. I would like to see the processes more streamlined and effective in accomplishing this goal. We know proper planning today makes for a better future for our community.
What should the Legislature do to address concerns about the level of local government aid?
Doug Schmitz - Make sure that their formulas are fair to all cities.
Eric Vogt - The legislature can not play with Cities as if they were toys. Cities are very complex financial entities and we deserve stability. They need to re-evaluate the formula and find a balance between making themselves look good, and lowing our taxes.
Describe your style of leadership with regard to conflict management.
Doug Schmitz - People rarely have anything other than the best intentions but conflicts still arise due to a lack of communication or different perspectives. I do not make snap judgements and listen to all sides of a conflict. I then make my decision.
Eric Vogt - I try my best to remove my personal feelings while listening to both sides of the issue. I may consult with others, but in the end I make the best decision I can with the information I have. I feel people need to know where I stand on the issue.
