What is the most pressing issue confronting the district and how would you solve it?
Mike Austreng - Our schools need more room. The present middle school is very old. At some point the voters will have to face this problem and it will be up to the board to present the voters with the most feasible plan. A plan that fill our needs, but isn't wasteful.
John Brunsberg - Some issues are replacing the middle school, rising costs for energy and maintenance, tight operating budget. I have no easy solutions.
Nathan Humbert - The most pressing issue I see in the district, (other than the obvious need for a new high school), is that there seems to be no accountability by the administration when it comes to spending and decision making.
Nadine Schnettler - The most pressing issue facing Rocori is effectively addressing the needs of our middle school students. The existing building is very old and in need of repair. I support the task force's recommendation to expand the high school site to grades 6-12.
Mary Ann Schorn-Rhoda - 1. (D)eveloping site for the middle school program. 2. Finding source and creative ideas to find funding and contributions to support our school district. 3. Ensuring to keep qualify educators and administrators in the Rocori district.
Lynn Schurman - The most pressing issue for all school districts in the state of Minnesota continues to be connected with state education funding that is both inadequate and unequitable. I will continue to work with legislators to push for solutions.
Michele Tebrake - The most pressing issue currently facing our district is adequate classroom space for our students. I see the need being met by supporting this important issue.
What is your opinion of the proposed $32 million high school and middle school expansion plan?
Mike Austreng - While the plans aren't "official" yet, they appear to be well thought out. There may be ways to cut some corners and I'm not sure the taxpayer is ready to say yes to another referendum.
John Brunsberg - I don't think the voters will go for a new high school, but I think some new constuction is necessary so we can get our kids out of the old middle school.
Nathan Humbert - n/a
Nadine Schnettler - I think it's the best plan that has been recommended in years. It solves capacity problems at all three elementary sites, it allows middle school students to learn in an up-to-date facility and it addresses the high school's need for space...
Mary Ann Schorn-Rhoda - I believe in the proposed $ 32 million high school and middle school expansion plan because our district is growing and the space...available is limited...The physical environment...needs to meet...social, physical and education needs.
Lynn Schurman - The district task force has looked at a number of options and task force members are recommending tearing down the oldest parts of the Middle School building and adding onto the High School.
Michele Tebrake - As a member of the Rocori Finance Committee, I have seen the facts surrounding the need of more classroom space for our students. I fully support the plan brought forth by the committee selected to research and assess the needs of our students.
What is your vision for Rocori schools?
Mike Austreng - To maintain a quality education for our students and be fair to the taxpayer and staff. We need to retain good teachers but not place too high a burden on the public.
John Brunsberg - I think bringing all 12 classes together at the same site will be the best. Cold Spring should have a good school. I think more vocational training is going to be very important also.
Nathan Humbert - I envision the Rocori school district to be the envy of Central Minnesota schools again. There was a time...that it would take a lot more than a new school to entice families away...with hard work (and) proper guidance...we can regain our status...
Nadine Schnettler - My vision for the Rocori district is to become a 5-star school that graduates students who are successful at whatever they choose to do, whether that is to attend a 4-year college, graduate school, a technical college or immediately enter the workforce.
Mary Ann Schorn-Rhoda - My vision for Rocori School district is to continue to provide high-quality education along with providing a safe, healthy environment for children to grow and become involved in a positive way in the community.
Lynn Schurman - Rocori schools must continue to be focused on preparing students to excel academically and compete successfully in an ever-changing world. Our district mission statement focuses on Caring, Learning and Giving and I want to do my part to continue this.
Michele Tebrake - I would like to see our Rocori schools continue to grow and thrive in an adequate environment that best suits our students.
