What do you see as your city's biggest issue?
Jared Gapinski - I believe that our biggest issue within our community is the already-high and growning taxes. This has got to be a concern of all the council people and beyond.
Dave Saunders - Downtown development.
What's your solution for that situation?
Jared Gapinski - We need to grow our business base within our community and control unnecessary expenditures. This is easier said than done, however with the proper plan and approach it can be done with positive results.
Dave Saunders - Court and work with developers to find good fits for the downtown area.
What should the Legislature do to address concerns about the level of local government aid?
Jared Gapinski - The Legislature must make sure that all communities meet the criteria of the local aid and then deliver it fairly. With that said, I believe that the government as a whole needs to look at all issues and make numerous changes. With goverment spending cuts coming, we need to make sure our community is applying properly and timely for whatever federal/state dollars that are available.
Dave Saunders - Cities and counties would all like more money from the state, but I believe it is more important to stabilize local government aid so the city can properly budget around the money they receive.
Describe your style of leadership with regard to conflict management.
Jared Gapinski - I believe in working together to get the best results. I will work diligently to get results. As a council we need to make tough decisions that benifit our community. I believe in making these tough desisions even if it means not making friends.
Dave Saunders - Compromise and understanding that yours is not the only opinion is important. Get the best ideas from everyone involved and come up with the best solution possible.
