  • concert photography archive

I’ve created a flickr page for all my old concert photography. I’ve got a few sets that still need to be edited, but this should be most of them.

  • st. patrick’s day

Zach and I spent St. Patrick’s Day (well, more like night, but what’s a few hours among friends) in Milaca, MN, at the invitation of DesiRae.
The highlight of the night was the rousing game of Apples To Apples that Desi and I dominated. The game was practically invented for in-jokes and irony, both of […]

  • tim&nance memorabilia

Looking through an old hard drive, I found the following tim&nance images:

The “promo” photo, as taken by Matt.

A poster advertising the SJU “Battle of the Bands” contest for 2004. I’m still not sure what the Prince theme is all about.

  • it won’t snow where you’re going

Carrie and Gillian somehow tricked us into going to D.B. Searle’s, which actually wasn’t too bad. This followed a rather odd meal at the new La Casita, where you apparently can’t eat in the same area where you get drinks. We also learned that the girls can’t pour from a cocktail shaker to […]

  • kelly jo’s birthday

Zach and I paid Rogers, MN, a visit this weekend for Kelly’s birthday. You know it’s a high class affair when we’re the best dressed people there…

A cake only a birthday girl could love…
Pretty interesting times at the St. Michael bar. No idea which bar it was, but they had karaoke. For […]

  • small town, saturday night

Attended yet another birthday extravaganza, this time for Dan’s gf Megan. She felt it imperative that we all go on an unofficial pub crawl of the bars in Belle Plaine (their new town of residence).

    We even had credentials.
Lots of good times all around on this one, with many unrepeatable yet quality lines being said. […]

  • sctimes is (a) new blog

Starting (officially) today, the St. Cloud Times has granted me blogspace on their website. I’ll be blogging about technology, which means I’ll post (most of) that stuff there, and leave this blog for my random musings and various projects. The rumor is that some of my informatinon may be repurposed in the Business […]

  • getting better

I took the camera out a little bit yesterday to see if I could get a better understanding of how all the aspects of photo composition affect each other.
    This one turned out okay:

I also took the camera out to the balcony at night and played around with exposure times.

I was using a prime lens, so […]

  • how i learned to stop worrying and love the dslr

I am not a great photographer (or even a capable one, for that matter), but the profession/hobby has always intrigued me. Spurred by my usual fleeting motivation (I’m-great-and-can-do-anything-with-a-little-practice), I ordered a Canon Digital Rebel XTi (or 400D for the rest of the world). Over the weekend, it arrived.

My purchase was for the camera […]

  • team jahnke 2006

Zach and I attended the Twin Cities Marathon yesterday to support our friend and first-time marathoner Megan Jahnke. Megan’s roommmate Tiffany, in a not-so-surprising move, took on the role of event coordinator, even going so far as to make shirts for Megan-specific spectators. Team Jahnke was born.

There are a lot of racers, so […]

  • lockdown

St. Cloud Technical High School went into lockdown yesterday after a girl inside the school called the authorities and said she had seen someone with a gun. Naturally, this caused quite a frenzy. I heard it over the police scanner and was immediately sent out with a video camera. Being pretty quick […]

  • lights out

Last night Zach and I were enjoying the second disc of Undeclared, when we were were interrupted by a ceasing of electricity.  This occurred around 11:28 p.m., and we still weren’t tired enough to sleep, so we jumped in the Prius and explored the city, seeing just how many people (probably) shared our anger at […]

  • mini golf is way awesome

Kelly Jo came to visit Zach and I today, and in the true spirit of Labor Day we decided to go mini-golfing at Summerland.  Zach overcompetitiveness netted him a 60 on the day, a score that would tie Kelly.  I dominated the field with a 45.

  • the barren northern woods are filled with old friends

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending a wedding in the town of Nebish, MN. You, for good reason, probably haven’t heard of this “town.” It is in far northern Minnesota, away from most culture and/or signs of life.
Normally my travels would not bring me to such a place, but this was a special occasion. […]

  • manicotti

The limits of my culinary skills were tested last night during my quest to make manicotti. I mostly followed the video on ctrl-alt-chicken, with a little help from a few random recipes found on google. It can only be categorized as an unqualified success:

Zach holding the grade A eggs required for this recipe.

    Manicotti […]

  • des moines trip, day 4 part 1

Today was the shortest day this week in terms of hours spent working on something, but by far took the most out of everybody.
We started off the day scouting out the parking lot location at which we were to shoot an employee appreciation rally. Like most indoor parking lots, it was not well lit. […]

  • des moines trip, day 2 part 2

Corporate-paid dinners could be the finest thing in life.
The first full day of video convergence was long, yet educational. The high definition video cameras are pretty ace; some pretty exceptional content is sure to emerge. We shot some press conference and police scene style footage, definitely entertaining.

Kari and Mike film an on the […]

  • des moines trip, day 1 part 1

I’m off to Des Moines for a 5 day conference on video and new media solutions. We get a fair amount of free time, so I’ll be updating this blog with some frequency. We’ve got two high definition video cameras waiting to be used, as well as two new PowerMacs and two absolutely […]
